Parent/Guardian Checklist — When Your Child Starts Auditioning or Training
Protecting minors
Items for parents/guardians to check, from verifying the agency and reviewing the contract and supplementary agreement to confirming the youth protection officer and checking schedules, education, housing, and meals.
1. Application stage
- Check together whether the announcement is on an agency’s official channel and whether the agency is registered as a 대중문화예술기획업 (popular culture and arts planning business).
- Do not apply if they ask for an audition fee, deposit, or profile photo fee.
- Know who your child is contacting and which messaging app they are using. If someone asks them to switch to a private messaging app, say no together.
2. Contract stage
- Check whether the documents are the standard trainee contract and the standard supplementary agreement for minors.
- Confirm the contract period, who covers expenses, how penalties are calculated, and the termination conditions in numbers, and get a copy.
- Give consent as the legal representative only after you understand the terms. If they pressure you to sign on the spot, ask to take more time.
- Get the name and contact information of the 청소년보호책임자 (youth protection officer).
3. Daily life stage
- Get a weekly schedule and check the activity-hour limits (35 hours per week for those under 15, 40 hours per week for those aged 15 and older) and whether there are activities after 10 p.m.
- Refuse if they encourage your child to miss school or drop out. This is coercion prohibited under the amended law.
- If there is a dorm, visit it in person and check that restrictions on mobile phone use do not cut off contact with family.
- Ask about the meal plan and weight-management practices, and request that they stop any instructions to lose weight excessively.
4. Checking in emotionally
Trainee life involves constant comparison and evaluation. Talk about the process rather than the results, and look out for changes in sleep, eating, or how much your child talks. If needed, contact Youth Counseling 1388 together for counseling.
