Safety Guidelines for Auditions and Meetings
Audition scams
Protect yourself by declining meetings in unofficial locations, one-on-one late-night meetings, drinking invitations, and on-the-spot contract demands. Bring a parent or guardian and share your location.
1. Location
- Auditions and meetings should take place at an agency office or a public audition venue.
- Decline requests to meet in a hotel room, motel, private home, car, karaoke room, or bar.
- If the location suddenly changes on the day, confirm it again by calling the agency’s official phone number.
2. Time and Going with Someone
- Avoid late-night or early-morning appointments.
- Minors should go with a parent or guardian. Reputable auditions do not prevent parents or guardians from accompanying you.
- If you have to go alone, tell family or friends the address, the contact person’s name, and when you expect to finish in advance, and turn on location sharing.
3. Things You Can Decline on the Spot
- Offers of alcohol or cigarettes, physical contact, or requests to change clothes and be filmed
- Requests to stop you from contacting your parent, guardian, or family
- Requests to sign a contract or pay money on the spot
If you feel uncomfortable, you can say, "I’ll discuss it with my parent or guardian and get back to you," and leave. A company that penalizes you for declining is not a good company.
4. Filming and Records
- For audition evaluations, standardized formats such as unedited front-facing and full-body shots are sufficient. Being asked to film in revealing clothes or a swimsuit is not part of a normal audition.
- Keep any business cards you receive, screenshots of the audition announcement, and records of your conversations.
5. If You Feel Unsafe
Leave immediately and call 112. If it’s difficult to speak, you can also report it to 112 by text message.
